Care Staff
Our care staff come from many walks of life — housewives, older students and undergraduates, people returning to work after a break or perhaps those looking for a career change. What they have in common is a sense of vocation and a wish to be part of an enthusiastic team working in the local community.
The work of a care assistant
The work of a care assistant is often challenging but affords interest and variety and over time should become a personally rewarding and greatly satisfying job. We offer full training, excellent pay rates, a discretionary bonus scheme, an NVQ program and opportunities for career progression.
The skills and attributes required of care assistants
- The ability to act with integrity and reliability, and to respect the privacy, dignity, individuality and confidentiality of each client.
- Empathy with a client's situation and a positive attitude in promoting and encouraging their independence.
- Specific knowledge (after a period of training) of Personal Care, Moving and Handling issues and techniques, Food Hygiene, Health and Safety, First Aid and similar issues as are relevant to personal care and support services.
- An interest in developing skills and knowledge by undertaking further periods of study and training.
- Being reasonably competent in household tasks.
- Acting with team spirit and liaising with other people providing assistance to the client.
- Showing initiative and communicating developments relating to a client's condition and those relating to Health and Safety requirements.
In addition, care assistants always need to match these skills with the virtues of patience, gentleness and compassion.
